About the Museum
Kiviks Museum – Founded in 1890
Kiviks Museum is Österlen's oldest museum, founded as a private museum by Ola Cappelin back in 1890. We turned 130 in 2020 with an anniversary lunch for about 30 invited guests. Kivik's Homeland and Museum Association was founded by Ola Cappelin in 1947 to take over the responsibility, and since then runs the activities around collections, lectures and guided hikes entirely on a non-profit basis.
All our museum collections and archives are owned byThe Kiviks Museum & Archive Foundation. The foundation has a scientific responsibility for conducting collection care, documentation and research around the Kiviksbygden. The museum section includes 5,000 objects from the Stone Age to the present and the exhibition area is approximately 150 square meters. The archive includes approximately 10,000 images, documents, films, maps, etc. from the history of Kiviksbygden, submitted by associations, companies and private individuals.
In audio guides, slideshows, films, photographs and maps, and with nearly 5,000 objects of use from the Stone Age to the present, we depict life at Kivik. Here, for example, you will learn more about fishing and shipping from when Kivik was one of Sweden's largest shipping communities, how the poor peasant life could create fertile ground for entrepreneurship and Sweden's Apple Kingdom, and how Scandinavia's largest market has its roots in a trade network from the mysterious Kiviksgrav of the Bronze Age and the mythical Iron Age Maletofta…
You are welcome to research our large archive of images, maps, films and documents from the Kivik region. We offer tours of the Museum and historical guided tours in the entire Kivik area from Ravlunda to Stenshuvud and from Hanöbukten to Bästekille, Grevlunda and Axelhult with different themes and with accompanying coffee! Contact us for more information and prices! After your visit, you are welcome to relax with a coffee, ice cream, drink or homemade cake in our café, and the museum shop always has an exciting book or souvenir.
