World War I
The First World War - 100 years ago.

Kiviks Museum drew attention during the period 2014-2019 to the 100th anniversary of the First World War. The reason for the attention is that the First World War is the event that most affected the history of Sweden, Europe and the world during the 20th century and that we must understand what happened in 1914-1919 in order to understand what continued to happen during the 20th century and to some extent share even today; both conflicts and attempts at peace, as well as political, cultural and economic social development during the 20th century, for the most part have their explanation and origin in what happened in the trenches.
Kiviks Museum has, as the only museum in Sweden, participated throughout the period in a large, international museum collaboration under the leadership of the Imperial War Museum in London. In the project, every year we have had new exhibitions about what happened that year a hundred years ago in the world, in Europe and in Sweden. We have had open lectures, film production and much more. The project ended with a unique film screening in collaboration between Kiviks Museum, Warner Bros and Kiviks Bio, where Peter Jackson's critically acclaimed film "They shall not grow old” was shown in May 2019 at Kiviks Bio. In connection with the film screening, the project ended with an exhibition aboutThe Treaty of Versailles and the War That Continuedand a compilation book of all the Kiviks Museum's exhibitions and lectures about the war and Sweden's role in the war. The book is available for purchase in the museum shop at Kiviks Museum and inthe bookstore.
