In the preliminary studyKivik – hub for research and development in cultural heritage, which was funded by the Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and Leader östra Skåne, investigatedThe Kiviks Museum & Archive Foundation and Asmiroca Cultural Heritage Experiencesduring 2024-2025 the possibilities of creating a meeting place with Kiviks Museum's international research as a base. In the preliminary study, it was also discussed to create an archaeological and experimental research lab, based on the rich archeology of the Kiviksbygden.

Early in the project, the idea of a mobile research lab was developed, partly because it would be difficult and expensive to build such a large premises that would be required to also house an archaeological lab and research equipment, partly because the entire Kivik area consists of archaeologically, geologically, culturally geographically and in other ways interesting remains or opportunities for research. Creating a mobile and experimental lab instead would thus both solve the local issue and the accessibility aspect.

Scandinavia's first mobile, experimental lab cart was therefore developed in broad collaboration with several scientific disciplines, such as archaeology, marine archaeology, geology, music archaeology, pollen analysis, marine biology, etc. The lab cart is owned by Kiviks Museum and Asmiroca Cultural Heritage Experiences. Permanent partners to the lab cart areKivik pliers, Friends of Kiviks Esperöds Arboretum, Kiviks Musteri AB and Forum Music Archaeology. Through the mobile lab cart, new projects, collaboration models, services and products can also be developed in a completely new way, because the cart also becomes a public part of the operations of both Kiviks Museum and Asmiroca Cultural Heritage Experiences. Through its mobility, the trolley thus not only connects the area's exciting research fields in a completely new way, but also the operations, as it is not only located in a limited physical location
