Kiviks Museum is Österlen's oldest museum, founded as a private museum by Ola Cappelin as early as 1890. All our collections and archives are owned byThe Kiviks Museum & Archive Foundation.

The Kiviks Museum & Archive Foundationhas a scientific responsibility for conducting collective care, documentation and research on the Kiviksbygden under the mottoPast, Present & Future. The museum's catchment area isRavlunda, Vitaby and Southern MellbyPrevious parishes consisting of landscapes, ancient remains, villages and resorts between Brösarp's slopes and Stenshuvud. The foundation is a member of the international museum communityICOMand the International Archives SocietyICA. The foundation is also a member ofThe Swedish Archives Associationand is registered in the National ArchivesNational archive database.
The foundation follows ICOM's international guidelines on ethics on exhibitions, collection and documentation work for museums, which you can read more abouthere. We also follow the Swedish ethical regulations fromThe National Antiquities Office, The National Archives and The Swedish Research Council. There is no requirement in Sweden for private museum foundations to comply with the museum or archival legislation, but we have nevertheless chosen to followSwedish Museum Act and The Archives Act, because it makes our work and policy compliance much easier. Our archives are arranged according to SwedishGeneral Archive Schematsgrounds, and we have obviously signed the international declaration on archives. Read morehere.
The foundation is public utility, which means that all revenue must go to finance research, documentation and dissemination of knowledge around Kiviksbygden and the management of objects and collections. The foundation receives grants and financial gifts for research purposes, documentation and dissemination of knowledge about Kiviksbygden, as long as these gifts are not conditional and otherwise follow the ethical guidelines for the museum and cultural heritage sector. The foundation's board is responsible for ensuring that the work around the collections takes place in accordance with ethical guidelines, archive legislation and international museum practice. The board includes professionally trained historians, archaeologists, museum and archive scientists, researchers and educators. The work is led by our Museum Director, who is a lecturer in history and is also chairman of both the Foundation's board and the non-profit association of friends, for a close collaboration.

ToThe Kiviks Museum & Archive Foundationthere is onenon-profit association of friendsknotted, where you canSign upand also engage you asvolunteer. Kivik's hometown and museum association was founded by Ola Cappelin in 1947, and is called todayNon-profit association Museum & Archive at Kivik. The Vänföreningen has members at Kivik, in Sweden, Denmark, Great Britain, France, Germany, Switzerland and the USA.
All work at the museum is carried out in close cooperation between the Foundation and the non-profit association of friends. The association works on a non-profit basis to spread knowledge about the collections through tours, guided tours and lectures. The foundation's work consists of research, documentation and continued collection of objects and archives. You can contact the association atinfo@kiviksmuseum.se
Briefly about the collections
The museum part comprises 5000 objects from Stone Age to the present and the exhibition area is approximately 150 sqm. The archive comprises about 10,000 images, documents, films, maps, etc. from Kiviksbygden's history, submitted by associations, companies and private individuals. In audio guides, slideshows, films, photographs, maps and utensils from Stone Age to the present, we depict life at Kivik. In the exhibitions, for example, you will find out more about fishing and shipping from when Kivik was one of Sweden's largest shipping communities, how the poor peasant life could create a breeding ground for entrepreneurship and Sweden's apple kingdom, and how Scandinavia's largest market has its roots in a trading network from the Bronze Age's mysterious Kiviksgrave And the mythical Iron Age Malatofta…
You are welcome to research our large archive with pictures, maps, movies and documents from the Kivik district. We offer walks at the museum and historicalguidesThroughout the Kiviks area from Ravlunda to Stenshuvud and from Hanö Bay to Bästekille, Grevlunda and Axelhult with different themes and with associated coffee! Contact us for more information and prices! After your visit, you are welcome to relax with coffee, ice cream, drink or homemade in our café, and in the museum shop there is always some exciting book or souvenir.
